Wine not?

There's been a buzz (pun intended) on the Internet about the health benefits associated with drinking wine. As a "wino" myself I've always wanted to know the truth behind the rumors and if I can start feeling a little better about myself after a glass or two...or four.

What I've come to realize after some research is that drinking wine has a slew of surprising health benefits. Don't get too excited -- everything comes in moderation...

According to Food & Wine Magazine, there are 8 main health benefits that result from drinking one or two four-ounce glasses of wine per day:

1. Promotes Longevity

2. Reduces Heart-Attack Risk

3. Lowers Risk of Heart Disease

4. Reduces Risk of Type 2 Diabetes

5. Lowers Risk of Stroke

6. Cuts Risk of Cataracts

7. Slows Brain Decline

8. Cuts Risk of Colon Cancer

Also, sorry to lovers of sweet, white wine but robust red wine has been proven to have greater health benefits due to the fact that it has so many more minerals and less sugar.

So why don't doctor's start prescribing wine to their patients?

Remember the word I used earlier? Moderation. Everyone has a different view of what drinking in moderation means, and even if you think you are keeping your drinking under control it's easy to turn your habit into an addiction and turn the health benefits into health hazards.

Drinking too much wine will have the same results as drinking too much of any type of alcohol: depression, mental health problems, stroke, liver problems, cancer, pancreatitis, etc.

So keep on tippin' back that glass and enjoying your wine nights, but keep in mind - if you want the health benefits stick to four - eight ounces per day. Cheers!
